Make Carbon Monoxide Alarms a Legal Requirement in Every UK Household

Make Carbon Monoxide Alarms a Legal Requirement in Every UK Household
The Issue
I’m starting this petition in memory of my brother, Elliot, whose life was cut short at just 27 years old by carbon monoxide poisoning. Losing him so suddenly has left a hole in our family that can never be filled. What makes it even harder is knowing his death was completely preventable. A simple carbon monoxide alarm could have saved him.
Carbon monoxide is often called the “silent killer” because you cannot see it, smell it, or taste it. It creeps into homes unnoticed and takes lives without warning. In the UK, dozens of people die every year and thousands are treated in hospital because of carbon monoxide poisoning. Behind each number is someone loved, someone missed, and a family left broken — just like mine.
That is why I am calling for the law to change so that every single home in the UK must have a carbon monoxide alarm. Smoke alarms are already a legal requirement, and rightly so — but carbon monoxide alarms are just as vital. They are small, inexpensive, and life-saving.
To make this change, we have teamed up with Project SHOUT, a campaign that raises awareness of the dangers of carbon monoxide and the importance of alarms. They work tirelessly to spread knowledge, educate the public, and ensure that this hidden danger is taken seriously. By joining forces, we want to use Elliot’s memory to protect others, and to turn our pain into a force for good.
Please sign and share this petition. Help us honour Elliot’s life by calling for change that will save others. No one should lose their life to something so silent, so deadly, yet so easily preventable. Together, we can make sure no other family has to endure the heartbreak that ours has.
