Make Canadian Laboratory Safe

Make Canadian Laboratory Safe
The Issue
I am a resident of Lethbridge, living in close proximity to the National Centre for Animal Disease, a CFIA research facility where TSE, COVID-19, Anthrax cultures are stored. The integrity of such facilities is paramount to our national security and public health. However, recent events have raised concerns about the hiring practices at Winnipeg’s National Microbiology Lab where researchers were found smuggling out deadly Nipha and Ebola cultures to the Wuhan Institute of Virology China so it could be spread around the world similar to COVID 19.
This compromised hiring process represents a threat to Canada's security as it potentially gives access to sensitive information and hazardous materials to unqualified individuals. This concern is further amplified when good employees within the organization blow the whistle on these issues only for their grievances to be ignored by senior management in Ottawa.
The health minister should revisit the hiring process conducted under Dr. Kingsley Amoako from 2019 till date in order to safeguard our national assets from theft and falsification which could lead us into a national hazard. There have been allegations that individuals were hired not based on their merit but due to affiliation with management or favoritism.
It's time we demand transparency and integrity in our federal institutions' employment processes especially those dealing with sensitive materials that can pose threats if mishandled or misused. It's time we ensure that every employee hired has undergone thorough background checks and possesses the necessary qualifications for their role.
Please sign this petition urging Health Minister of Canada to investigate these allegations thoroughly, strengthen security clearance protocols, improve hiring practices at NCAD/CFIA Lethbridge and protect Canada's national security as well as public health interests.
