Make Boxing an organization for Texas State University.

The Issue

Boxing is the 4th most popular sport in the United States, with 32% of Gen Z sports fans expressing interest in it. Despite its popularity, Texas State University lacks an official boxing club, leaving many students, including myself and my peers, without an opportunity to engage in a sport that promotes fitness, discipline, and team bonding. We are passionate about boxing, and it’s disheartening to see that this widely loved sport isn’t available at Texas State, especially when universities like Texas A&M, the University of Miami, and others have thriving boxing programs that serve as outlets for students to improve both physically and mentally.

If things remain the same, Texas State University will continue to miss out on the opportunity to offer students a platform for a competitive and fitness driven activity. The lack of an official boxing organization excludes students who are interested in pursuing boxing, whether for fitness, competition, or self-defense. Allowing boxing as a student organization at Texas State will provide a safe, structured environment for students to come together, train, and grow. It would foster an inclusive community that embraces both seasoned athletes and newcomers, allowing them to build confidence, resilience, and physical strength while forming lifelong friendships.

Now is the time to act. With 8.4 million individuals participating in boxing-related activities across the U.S., and boxing being one of the top 5 sports among younger demographics, there is clearly a demand for this at Texas State University. By signing this petition, you’re helping us bring boxing to Texas State University and ensuring that all students have access to a sport that promotes fitness, discipline, and community. Let’s make boxing a part of student life at Texas State, where it belongs!
