Make Booth Rental Legal for Licensed Cosmetology,Esthetics, nail salon owners in the Pa.
The Issue
I have been in the Cosmetology field for 45+ yrs I started as many as a shampoo assistant became a stylist then manager and eventually a salon owner for the past 30 yrs. I went from salary to commission to self employment so I have seen many aspects of this business as you can see I have one question why is the state of Pennsylvania the ONLY state That does not allow Booth Rental but you can work beside a barber is who is allowed. Now the State Pa. Board also wants to deregulate Cosmetologist and Barbers. That means anyone who wanted to be Stylist or Barber even without formal training can do your hair. In which the salon owner will be liable. Not only is the new cosmetologist cheated on their education but those in the cosmetology field who have invested their money as well as time in this field with education have just been cheated too.Allowing Booth Rental in Pa. would not only protect the salon owner from legal matters that may occur due to deregulation but also make the the stylist responsible for their actions. As well as allow both the salon owners and stylist/ independent contractor to build their business. Which brings more revenue to the State. By not legalizing booth rental. will result in salons in which some not all owners want total control by charging commission, product fees and signing waivers of non compete .Limiting the stylist of growth.
