Betty's is one of the only true DIY spaces in Pensacola and one of the most popular/busy queer spaces in Pensacola. Betty's does not have an accessible entrance. Each of the four entrances has a barrier that makes it inaccessible, making it extremely difficult for disabled people with mobility aids to get into the building. I am an ambulatory wheelchair user, and I am fortunate enough to have some use of my legs. That being said, I have to take my wheelchair or rollator out most nights due to the severity of my chronic illness. While I can stand up and maneuver my mobility aid through difficult entrances, not everyone can, nor should I have to. I, along with many others, would like to be able to enjoy the events and shows that Betty's hosts, but are unable to due to the lack of accessibility. While I understand it is unrealistic to make the entire bar 100% up to ADA, I believe they should, at the very least, have an accessible entrance and disabled parking. With this petition, I hope to show Betty's that people are interested in having their space be accessible! I love Betty's and the community and environment they create, and I just want to be able to enjoy the bar the same way my able-bodied friends can. I would love to eventually have a fundraiser show to raise money for the costs of renovations, and I would love to show them there is interest in the community!
