Make animal testing illegal in Massachusetts

The Issue

My name Rachel, born and raised in Boston, MA. I am a devoted pet owner, fortunate enough to share my life with a loving beagle who brings joy and companionship every day. Whenever I look into my beagle's eyes, I see a spirit full of love and trust, and it breaks my heart to think that animals like mine suffer in laboratories purely for human profit.

Animal testing is a cruel and outdated practice that subjects innocent creatures to needless pain and suffering. While many organizations claim these tests are necessary, it's crucial to highlight the fact that numerous alternatives exist. Methods such as in vitro testing, computer modeling, and human-patient simulators are just a few examples of humane and effective alternatives that allow for scientific advancement without compromising the welfare of animals.

In Massachusetts alone, thousands of animals—including dogs, cats, rabbits, and monkeys—are subjected to experiments each year, despite the mounting evidence against the efficacy and ethical viability of such practices. According to the American Anti-Vivisection Society, more than 95% of drugs deemed safe and effective in animal tests fail in human trials. This statistic alone underscores the urgent need to shift toward more accurate and humane methods of testing.

By making animal testing illegal, we can position Massachusetts as a leader in ethical science and innovation. This change would not only align with our state’s values of compassion and progressiveness but also inspire legislative changes in other regions, setting a precedent for the entire nation to follow.

I urge you to support this cause and encourage local lawmakers to stand against animal cruelty in laboratories. Your signature can help ensure that no animal suffers unnecessarily for human gain. Together, we can create a world where scientific progress and animal welfare coexist. Please sign this petition to make animal testing illegal in Massachusetts.
