The Issue

Purpose

This petition calls for the formal recognition of Mexican Americans as part of the Mexican diaspora and seeks the creation of political, cultural, and legal pathways that reconnect millions of people of Mexican descent in the United States with the Mexican nation.

Historical Context

For generations, Mexican Americans have lived with the legacy of the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo, the loss of ancestral lands, and ongoing forms of cultural and political marginalization. Despite deep historical ties, Mexican Americans remain largely unrecognized within Mexico’s official diaspora framework.

Our Declaration

We, people of Mexican descent in the United States—often identifying with Aztlán and the broader Mexican nation—affirm that we are part of the Mexican people. We call on the Government of Mexico to formally recognize us as a diaspora community and to open a long‑term process of political, cultural, and legal reconnection.

We are not calling for violence, displacement, or conflict. We are asserting identity, belonging, and human rights.

Our Core Demands

  • Official Recognition: Acknowledge Mexican Americans as part of the formal Mexican diaspora, with dedicated government programs and representation.
  • Simplified Nationality & Dual Citizenship: Expand and streamline access to Mexican nationality and dual citizenship for U.S.-born children of Mexican parents.
  • Diaspora Councils: Establish representative councils so Mexican Americans can help shape Mexico’s policies toward its diaspora communities.
  • Cultural & Educational Investment: Support indigenous and Mexican cultural, linguistic, and educational initiatives throughout the U.S. Southwest.
  • Human Rights & Due Process: Promote stronger humanitarian protections and due‑process support for Mexican Americans navigating cross‑border legal, cultural, and identity issues.

Campaign Goals

  • Initial Target: 1 million signatures globally.
  • Long‑Term Goal: 5–10 million signatures to demonstrate the true scale of the Mexican American diaspora.

Participation

Primary signers are people of Mexican descent in the United States, but allies are welcome to support the petition.

Data & Safety

We collect only essential information: name, email, city, state, and whether the signer is of Mexican descent. No sensitive data is required.

Closing Statement

We are not asking for war or displacement. We are asserting our right to belong to the Mexican nation and to build a future that honors our heritage, identity, and collective dignity beyond colonial borders.
