Hello super supporters!

Subject: Lil-Lets End Period Plastic

Dear Daniel Wild and Lil-Lets,

I am contacting you as a supporter of the ‘Make all Menstrual Products Plastic Free’ campaign that is backed by over 106,700! (www.change.org/plasticfreeperiods

The threat of plastic pollution has been gaining huge media coverage with its adverse environmental effects taking centre stage. Naturally this has put this topic at the forefront of our thoughts, making us all consider the role of plastic in our lives, the waste it produces and the damage it causes worldwide.

There are multiple environmental effects associated with period products, they can enter rivers, oceans and end up on beaches when incorrectly flushed, in fact an estimated 1.5-2 billion period items are flushed down UK toilets every year! This pollutes and negatively impacts the environment. They add to ocean plastic which kills around 1 million sea birds, 100,000 sea mammals, marine turtles and countless fish each year. Overtime their plastic content breaks down into smaller pieces known as micro-plastics and fibres which are then a further threat to marine-life and wider ecosystems. They also contribute to over 200,000 tonnes of landfill waste in the UK every year and if they are not put into landfill then they will be incinerated.

Plastic applicators are another major problem. They are used for a matter of seconds and should never be made from a material that takes centuries to break down. There is no excuse for this excessive use of plastic when there are viable alternatives such as tampons with cardboard applicators or no applicators, which you already produce!

With so many companies out there already manufacturing eco-friendly period care it is obvious that this plastic content is both unnecessary and that the harmful impact they are having is completely avoidable!

This is why I am calling on you to take responsibility, stop manufacturing pointless plastic applicators, and end period plastic across your product line, including packaging!

Period products are an essential, however the plastic content of them is not; will you do what is necessary and end period plastic?

Yours Sincerely,
