UPDATE: Sainsbury's now stocking range of eco-period products!
Dec 17, 2018 —
Hello Super Supporters!
At the end of October, we took action telling Sainsbury’s that we wanted them to take responsibility and make their own branded period products plastic-free and in the meantime to make eco-friendly options available for customers in their stores.
One week after we did this, two eco-period brands became available in Sainsbury’s stores around the country; Yoni’s range of eco-friendly tampons & pads as well as Intimina’s menstrual cups.
After this development I contacted Sainsbury’s Executive Office to ask whether this was due to the action we had taken, however they were unable to comment on this but did say that they had been inundated with emails from the supporters of this campaign (thank you!).
Because of the short time frame between us taking action and them stocking these eco-period brands and as this news comes just after Tesco’s similar announcement in mid-October that they were now stocking a range of eco-period care in their stores nationwide. It would make sense that with Sainsbury’s and Tesco’s making these products available within just weeks of each other that it is down to the influence of the campaign and due to the original pressure that you put on them by signing the petition, which has made it clear to them that there are over 100,000 of us that want change to happen.
It is fantastic that Sainsbury’s have also taken a step in the right direction by making these available in over 200 of their stores. I have requested to meet them for a face to face discussion about the plastic in their own brand period care and they have responded to this by passing my details to the relevant developments.
In other news the campaign has recently been featured in Huffington Post USA and i-D magazine:
