Make a Simple Decision, Give the Gift of Vision to Homebound Detroiters.

The Issue

How long do homebound senior citizens in Detroit have to live and struggle with vision impairment and go without in-home vision screening, eye care, and treatments?

Approximately, 40,000 homebound seniors in Detroit are not currently being screened and tested in-home for a variety of eye diseases (i.e. glaucoma, cataracts, diabetic retinopathy).

According to the Vision Detroit Project (2022), Detroiters face greater visual burdens, barriers, and access to eye care. However, homebound seniors are often times at greater risk of increased vision decline due to limited interventions and interactions with health and eye care professionals.

Additionally, the correlation between vision impairment, anxiety, and depression is greatly researched and evidenced. In, 2021, the Detroit News reported a 30-year spike in suicides amongst senior citizen populations.

We can close the vision impairment gap for as many senior citizens as possible by engaging more with senior citizen populations in the comfort of their homes to provide vision care and to decrease their social isolation. There is currently no city-wide program in place to meet the urgent eye care needs of homebound seniors.

Eye Care For Detroit, Inc., has a comprehensive solution to close the access to eye care gaps for homebound seniors.

The ECFD Platform facilitates:

·    Telehealth/Telemedicine Visits

·    Mobile Visits

·    Mobile Eye Care Clinics – (Coming 2023)

·    ECFD Shuttle Service

·    Eyeglass Prescription Fulfillment

The vision and lives of many homebound seniors will be positively improved and enhanced with the help of generous corporate donors and community leaders who contribute to this solution. Let's engage both the philanthropic and corporate community to provide the infrastructure and resources needed to help some of the most disadvantaged stakeholders in our community.

"I care for Detroit, you care for Detroit, we all care about the eye care of Detroiters."
