Maintain Water Access in the Large Dog Area at Ingram Park

Maintain Water Access in the Large Dog Area at Ingram Park
The Issue
The Ingram Dog Park has been my sanctuary for over five years; a place where my canine friends have had the liberty to freely enjoy a cooling splash as they roughhouse and frolic. The provision of water here has not only been a source of joy but a health necessity, enabling our dogs to regulate their temperature amidst the scorching summer heat. It also serves as a valuable source of physical activity, contributing to the wellbeing of numerous dogs in our community.
However, there's a looming issue which is personal to numerous pet owners like me. The proposed plans to fill in the current bone shaped water area to create a “play mound” at Ingram Park is worrisome. While the reasons for such a move are unclear, it is crucial to remember the vital role this resource plays in our dogs' health and happiness.
Research shows that swimming provides numerous health benefits for dogs, including weight control, muscle toning, and joint relief. Moreover, water play counteracts overheating, a critical concern during summer months when canine heat stroke incidents tend to rise (American Kennel Club).
We cannot overlook the fact that this accessible water has been a cherished feature of Ingram Dog Park for over half a decade. The park, with its aquatic provision, is a product of our shared love for dogs and their wellbeing. Let's ensure the continued enjoyment of this amenity for our furry friends and the future generations of pet owners.
We request the Parks Department to uphold the ethos of our dog-loving community and maintain water access in the large dog area at Ingram Park. We, as responsible guardians of our pets, urge you to consider the well-founded value and joy this resource provides. Please sign this petition to retain this fundamental feature at Ingram Dog Park.
