Maintain Current School Start Times and Prevent Implementation of a Two-Tier Bus System

The Issue

If you have not yet heard Bismarck public schools intends to start the two-teir bus system next year.

The new two-tier bus system will affect students, childcare, families, activities, and businesses. High school students may have fewer work hours, forcing businesses to change schedules. Daycares might struggle to provide after school care because no one is available for pick ups.

Younger students will need to wake up earlier, which will be tough as their routines are so important. Older students will have delayed start times but will have changes to evening schedules. Teachers will stay later at school which will reduce their free time. Parents will also have to adjust their schedules to accommodate the new scheduling.

Extracurricular activities like sports will be challenged with later practice times. This will leave students with less time for homework and family, making balancing school, activities, and their personal life even harder.

We respectfully urge Bismarck Public Schools to carefully  consider the negative effects of the two-tier bus system and to maintain the regular start and end times. Keeping the existing schedule would have an overall positive impact on students, families, businesses, and the community.

By signing this petition you are expressing your support for preserving the current school start times, which will contribute to the well-being of the community. Thank you for your time and consideration in this matter.
