Traffic Lights (along with artificially low speed limits) create congestion. They help to create road trauma, serious & fatal crashes, deaths caused due to frustration, tiredness, stress, anger, dangerous driving, time wasting at lights, texting, etc. They increase road rage, contribute to mental (stress) and physical health issues (asthma etc) and are totally unhealthy for the environment via burning off more carbon emission's. Each set of traffic lights cost the tax payer about $10,000 per year just to maintain. WA has 1,000+ so the cost over 10 years is $100,000,000 in wasted money. That could be used on schools, education, pensioners, hospitals etc.  

A switch to Modern Roundabouts (not to be confused with the dangerous Traffic Circles & Rotaries) will reduce serious & fatal intersection crashes by over 80%. Improve traffic flow by 4 - 5 times at peak hour in a SAFER manner.Cost nothing to maintain in comparison to lights.Save motorists 500,000 gallons per year per traffic light removed. A single lane RAB (roundabout) can handle up to 25,000 VPD (Vehicles Per Day ),  A 2 lane RAB can service up to 50,000 VPD, Modelling has show a 3 lane RAB will do up to 75,000 VPD (see Carmel, Indiana, USA. Mayor Jim Brainard.) Heavier traffic volumes then require grade separation. (i.e. Over & under.) This system is currently being used in Carmel, Indiana, which has a state population of about 7 million people.

In Perth WA, there are about 40,000 crashes per year, close to 3,000 are serious & fatal, around 160- 170 deaths per year with the current system. Unacceptable. CHANGE required.
