Take action against Illegal Slaughter of Cattle
The Issue
Foremost, please note that this is not a religious crusade. This is a crusade against the inhuman treatment meted out to cattle who are treated with utmost cruelty while being transported and slaughtered in the most appaling manner, and its all Illegal.
I am a member of the High court committee on animal welfare and an ardent animal lover. The plight of cattle being subjected to such torture riles me with anger. These are the animals who serve us loyally and why do we treat them in such a fashion? It is sheer barbarism. The Indian cattle transport industry, rife with illegal practices and corruption (such as bribery of officials charged with overseeing transport and slaughter), remains secretive and out of sight of the general public".
The area of Nallasopara in Palghar District has become the hub of illegal Beef supply and butchers from as far as Mumbai source their meat from here. An example of the Modus Operandi of the Meat Mafia goes thus – Cattle belonging to poor adivasi cowherds in the areas surrounding the highway is lured on to the road using fodder – Run over by vehicles and injured, loaded on to the vehicles and taken for illegal slaughter. Also, cattle from various other part of Maharashtra lands here through illegal means for illegal slaughter. Despite my repeated complaints on the issue, the local police remain inactive.
More than 50 cattle are slaughtered illegally everyday. This problem has an even darker side to it and that is of Illegal Bangladeshi immigrants, who run the illegal slaughterhouses. It is a strong possibility that the massive amounts of income generated by the Meat Mafia can be used for Anti – National activities, the major problems can be summed up this -
1. The deliberate kidnapping and injuring of cattle from the highways and surrounding areas for purpose of slaughter.
2. The unchecked slaughter of said cattle in the most inhuman conditions in defiance of the law and any form of civility.
3. The free and unimpeded movement of vehicles carrying said cattle to the illegal slaughterhouses run by illegal Bangladeshi nationals who are posing a threat to society owing to their ever increasing numbers. More than 150 cattle are landing everyday.
4. The absence of concrete action by the police force despite my filing repeated complaints.
5. The impunity and the lawlessness with which the criminals operate and the rise in crime the inaction by the authorities leads to.
6. The Three day licences issued by the authorities to slaughter cattle are forged and used by the butchers all year round.
Wealth is being amassed by the perpetrators indulging in the unholiest of crimes and nothing is being done about it – I have filed more than 50 complaints over the years against the illegal butchers to no avail. The local police are of no help. In fact I have posted letters of complaints to the SP. Dy.SP and the ASP of Palghar district against the senior Inspector here and the way crime is spiralling here in Nallasopara. I have even written to the CM of Maharashtra along with various ministers of the Maharashtra government. My pleas for a meeting are being ignored and shunted aside. The SP has finally agreed for a meeting on Monday, 29/09/2014. In the hopes of some concrete action being taken, i urge you all to sign this petition. Please help....
