Thank you so much for sharing Tristan’s story and supporting Tristan!

Well, a lot has been going on. So many wonderful people have reached out wanting to support Tristan. We are now being represented by the ACLU and a private attorney that specializes in suing school districts. The school is digging in their heels in this and are continuing to violate Tristan’s civil rights.
Tristan, with our support, decided not to cut their hair. We discussed all the pros and cons of making this decision. With this decision, comes the consequence of spending the day in in school suspension (ISS). Today was Day 1 of ISS. As a mom, I wanted to make sure that Tristan knew that they were not in trouble. Tristan has done nothing wrong and this is the incompetence of the school and the injustices of the school district.
We blasted “This is me” song before I dropped theem off for school. Tristan is not only fighting for their own rights but they want to fight for all the kids who are being effected by this dress code.

”what about other kids that are like me but are too scared to come out?”
“what about boys that just want long hair?”

“Why can a girl have long or short hair and nobody tries to control what they can do?”

“and is the principal really going to take a boys earrings and not give them back to me?”

All valid questions, Tristan.

The next few days will be filled with news media, journalists and this story becoming very public (without Tristan’s face to protect them). Magnolia ISD will have to answer these questions that my sweet child deserves to know the answers on.

as much as we are fighting for Tristan’s rights, we are fighting for all of our children’s rights. This dress code is sexist, homophobic, antiquated and has been challenged for years. George Washington crossed the Delaware with long hair. Albert Einstein? Sir ISacic Newton? Umm…JESUS CHRIST?!? Come on. Enough is enough.
