Don't Let Them Take My Best Friend Away: Do it For Dan!

The Issue

(Pictured Above, Daniel Onoa is in the Middle)

September 24, 2016

My name is Ashley Helen Selfridge, I am twenty-two years old and I am a US Citizen that lives in Hooksett, NH.

My best friend Daniel Onoa is facing deportation. Dan came here from Colombia when he was a young child. I have known Mr. Daniel Onoa for over 10 years. He has been my best friend since the sixth grade. Since the time I have met him, Dan has proven to be one of the kindest and most hardworking people I know. He has had to work extremely hard for everything that he has. Dan came here as a young boy; he has exceeded not only in adapting to life in the United States but has also made a future for himself here.

He was the first of my friends to have a steady job that brought in needed income to support his family not only here in the States, but also in Colombia. He is currently a Financial Service Representative at Triangle Credit Union here in Manchester. He has been contributing to his family and society. Daniel is and has been involved in countless community and civic events, specifically the Walk to End Alzheimer’s, the Cigna 5K, and coaching at children’s basketball camps, just to name a few.

I am lucky to have met Daniel and to have grown so close to him. He is my best friend. The one that is always there for me, and I for him. He has showed me that dreams can come true, and that hard work does pay off. He has been an inspiration to me since I met him. I cannot imagine not being able to see all of the great things I know he is going to accomplish.

Daniel deserves to be here. He has taken the opportunity of living in the United States and through determination and perseverance has made a life for himself here. He has touched so many lives and would be missed more than I can explain by so many if sent back to Colombia. One mistake should not determine the fate of this man’s life that he has worked so hard to make. Daniel has a bright future ahead of him here and it would be a shame if all of it were taken away. A great amount of effort, time, and money has been spent by Dan trying to right his wrong.

We need to get the word out about Daniel and help him by signing this petition. Please consider signing this to keep Daniel here with his family and friends.

Please don't let them take him away from all of us!

Sincerely,
Ashley Selfridge
