The issue

When the North East Link Project promised us privacy screenings on the new M80 Walk bridge at Watsonia, we felt reassured that our homes and families would remain our private sanctuaries. However, this promise was not kept, leaving us exposed and uncomfortable in our own backyards.

The recently constructed bridge offers direct sight into at least 50 homes in our neighborhood. This lack of privacy has hampered our ability to enjoy our outdoor spaces. Our children and grandchildren can't play freely, and family gatherings by the pool have become a distant memory. More disturbingly, this exposure has emboldened some to engage in unacceptable behaviors—such as throwing stones and teasing our pets.

Our community's safety is compromised as well. With potential onlookers able to peer straight into dining rooms, our sense of security is eroding day by day. We have repeatedly addressed this issue with authorities, only to hear excuses and empty promises about future changes that seem unlikely to materialize.

The solution is simple and practical: install the previously promised tinted Perspex privacy screens along the bridge. Doing so would respect the privacy of the families who live alongside this infrastructure, deter potential misbehavior, and restore the safety and peace of our neighborhood.

We urge the North East Link Project and the relevant authorities to uphold their commitment to our community. Our homes are where we should feel safest, and it's time for action to be taken to protect that right.

By signing this petition, you will be supporting Watsonia residents in our fight for dignity and safety in our homes. Let's hold those responsible accountable and bring our concerns into the light for immediate attention.
