It has been a while since the last update so here is the latest, in brief!
P@H stopped selling pets during the first lockdown, gave incentives to staff to take the animals but then resumed the sales. Some stores no longer sell rabbits and other pets but it still isn't good enough.
The issues are not going away with rabbits sold by Pets at Home and here are a few examples from the recent months (full details on our Facebook page).
A rescue centre recently took in 23 baby rabbits due to mis-sexing by staff. The estimated cost in vet bills is £2,500.
Two brothers sold together during lockdown were surrendered to a rescue after they started fighting (as unneutered males do!)
A female rabbit bought two years ago (microchipped) was found abandoned, very thin and covered in fleas and ticks.
A male bought for a child back in May and kept in a small hutch had teeth growing out of his mouth but the owners hadn’t noticed.
Another Pets at Home rabbit ended up in a rescue in August after being cruelly treated by its owner, who kept him shut in, in a coal bunker. The neglect was irreversible and he passed away two months later.
If Pets at Home put pets before profit, they wouldn’t ignore their suffering. To prevent that suffering they must stop selling.
We have an opportunity to get the government to respond to our latest petition calling for a total ban on the sale of pets from pet shops. However, we only have one month left to reach the target of 10k signatures. We still need 2,420. Please could you help by signing if you haven't already and also share it widely. UK residents and citizens can sign.

Thanks to Lucy’s Law, puppies and kittens are no longer sold in shops in England. This ban should be extended to rabbits and other animals who deserve the same protection.
Thanks for taking action. Together we can make a difference.
