Another example of a baby rabbit who suffered for profit. Toffee was mis-sexed by Pets at Home as a female. He was bought as a baby. Returned to the store. Adopted and put together with an entire male. Bullied. Returned to the store. Adopted again and put with an entire male again. Bullied. Returned to the store. When Toffee was adopted into his 4th and final home, at the age of 12 weeks old, he was very stressed and skinny, only weighing 500g. The staff at Pets at Home explained he sat in his hide in the store and would never come out. After being adopted it took Toffee 10 months to get over his ordeal and trust humans and other rabbits again. After being neutered and given time to rest, Toffee was introduced to the love of his life, in the shape of a beautiful spayed female called Flash!
No bunny should suffer for profit.
Pets at Home routinely mis-sex rabbits and rarely provide bonding advice. The rabbits leave the stores unneutered. This often results in unwanted litters, males fighting or rabbits being used for breeding.
There’s many reports of rabbits fighting in the stores too. Some are moved to the adoption section and unfairly labelled as aggressive. As a result, those young rabbits could be denied the companionship of another rabbit for the rest of their lives.
There’s dozens of reasons why Pets at Home should stop selling rabbits as we have exposed through real stories over the last year. Thanks to your support we have reached over 26,000 signatures. A strong message which Pets at Home needs to take seriously.
