Quick update concerning LTHS "Vision" -Last week at the 4/11 BOE meeting was admittedly the 1st time any discussion of the new "Vision" occurred. Let's try to stay positive though, ; ) BOE members questioned Scott Eggerding & Brian Waterman, as well as Jennifer Tyrell on said vision, its implementation, and perhaps some of its intrinsic flaws. Eggerding provided a presentation which can be seen on the LTHS website or on the Youtube video of the meeting. I encourage ALL to watch and educate themselves. Aside from "there will be frequent summative assessments" that was provided at the semester, there have been no substantive changes to "the Vision". In fact, there have been disparaging remarks made towards teachers reluctance, "fear of change", and parents/communities needing to "stomach the changes". HW must "be counted" towards grades as this helps teen build habits to succeed. Lack of HW enforcement at school undermines parents as we attempt to instill values & work ethics at home. There are NO PEER reviewed studies CITED to support this "Vision", long term longitudinal studies, at similar HS's. This points directly to our kids being an experiment. Excellent schools hold kids to high standards. Ooops, we're keeping it positive. We ARE ACTUALLY SPEAKING about grading and curriculum now at BOE meetings with our Admin. Please let your voices be heard, this impacts our community, all our children's future, and our property values.
