Justice for David Hernandez & Christopher Baez

Justice for David Hernandez and Christopher Baez

My name is Brenda Hernandez, I am here to demand justice for David Hernandez and Christopher Baez

On February 8, 2012, when I was only fourteen years old, my brother David Hernandez and his friend Christopher Baez were shot and killed in a drive-by shooting as they were walking in broad daylight on the 7600 block of Bell Ave I the city of Los Angeles at 1:43 p.m. David, 18, and Chris, 17, were interrupted from accomplishing their dreams and goals, leaving behind their families and friends. David also had a one-year old daughter who to this day continues to ask for their father. My brother's dream was to become a professional boxer and provide his daughter and parents with a better life. He was just a kid who valued life and had huge dreams to represent the city of Los Angeles as a boxer. David always put a smile on people's faces despite how difficult their day was. He loved to help people in need and always went above and beyond for his friends and family.

In 2012, the Hernandez family and the Baez family were assured by the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department Homicide Bureau that the case would be solved in less than three months. Investigator G. Okada, from the Sheriff Homicide Bureau was left and a contact person on a special bulletin post created by the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors under the supervision of Sheriff Lee Baca. It has now been 8 years and justice has not been served for both families. Detective G. Okada, who was the lead investigator is now retired and we have yet to hear from any representative of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department on the status of the case. Sheriff Leroy D. Baca is also no longer the Sheriff. We feel the entire LA County Sheriff Department has failed in bringing peace and justice for both families. The suspects are three Hispanic male local gang members known to the community where the victims were shot. According to witnesses, the suspects were last seen driving north on Bell Ave in a white chevy cobalt. However, the bulletin states the suspects were in a late silver chevy impala. The suspects were known to own a chevy cobalt and not an impala. Information on the suspects whereabouts is known by several residents and witnesses who live in the area. Witnesses have been reluctant to come forward because they were intimidated by the suspects and suspects friends.

It has been very difficult to adjust to life without my brother, we miss him so much. It has created an emotional trauma and has impacted the lives of many family and friends. It is difficult to accept the idea that these suspects are walking freely in the community. One of the suspects is a serviceman for the US Army.

Justice is long overdue! How much longer should we wait? It's been 8 years now...
