Dear all,
I performed simple math to determine that we do not have enough signatures. If you would rather not read on, get on your keyboards and continue spreading the word to your family and friends! :-) If you'd like to know how I arrived at this conclusion, see below.
For a bus company to be interested in franchising this route, ideally every one of their trips should be filled with passengers. Let's use the ATC - Greenbelt (Alabang - Makati) route franchised by RRCG Transport as an example.
RRCG Transport has 4 buses, which make 22 trips to Makati, and another 22 to back to Alabang daily. Assuming each bus sits approximately 50 people comfortably, we will need a total of 44 x 50 passengers; that's 2,220 passengers daily.
I realize more than a few passengers going one way will likely travel back the other-- but it's best to be pragmatic. Not everyone who will take a P2P bus will take it everyday, either. (Note: Those aren't things I can easily compute for. If anyone cares to share, by all means do!)
The bottom line is we will need 2,220 signatures at the VERY LEAST. But if we could double or even triple this number, it would make for a much better case. I'll try to corroborate this computation with representatives from the DOTC or the LGUs, and keep you posted. If you know any decision maker, do let me know how to get in touch.
Thanks everyone and let’s keep those signatures coming!
Micaela
