As a young person observing the world around me, I am deeply affected by decisions made every day in Parliament. Laws are passed and discussions held, the ones who will actually see the consequences of these actions in the future (us), are denied the ability to share our opinions on these decisions. We have seen around the world countries like Scotland, Austria, and Argentina have lowered their voting age to 16, and have been met with positive results in youth engagement and civic responsibility (Source: United Nations, 2020). This is about creating the fair, inclusive society we all want to live in. Lowering the voting age to 16 acknowledges their ability to make informed decisions and shape the political landscape of their own futures.
