Thank you for signing our petition to lower the age for bowel cancer screening, so far we have gained over 1,800 signatures and gained the attention of our local Skegness and Boston MP Mark Warman, who has kindly agreed to meet me at his future constituency surgery to discuss the issues I have raised surrounding bowel cancer screening. I do passionately believe that we need to bring the age down to include younger adults. My brother Rob was only 44 when he passed away of bowel cancer. Currently the screening is at 59 and over and eventually it will be rolled out to 50’s and over. However, had this been the case when Rob passed, he was six years under the age of 50 to be eligibility.
I have had an email of bowel cancer UK, outlining their position and how they are trying to screen more adults for Lynch syndrome. Which is fantastic and a leap forward in genetic bowel cancer. However, there are thousands of adults walking around unaware they have Lynch syndrome gene, and unlikely to have even heard of it. Let alone know their family history of bowel cancer.
My brother only found out he had lynch syndrome after having a blood test before having cancer treatment. By then it was too late for him. Not everyone knows if they have a history. That’s while bowel cancer screening should be available to younger adults to detect cancer early and save many more lives. Please keep sharing and thank you for continuing to share and show support.
