Its been a few weeks since we have launch our campaign to lower the bowel cancer screening age to include more younger age groups. I have written to our local MP Matt Warman and have received an email outlining the work the government is currently doing in relation to lower the age group to include 50’s and over within the next four years. I have gone a step further by requested his government consider the 40’s and over being added to the screening program before the end of this decade. Once we have achieved this objective, we can continue to make further changes to include all adult age groups. I have screen shot an interesting graph relating to bowel cancer mortality rates for all the age groups. Thanks to cancer research UK for posting the information online. As you can see there is a steady increase in the 40’s and over. According to statistics from cancer research There are around 42,900 new bowel cancer cases in the UK every year, that's nearly 120 every day (2016-2018). There could be around 47,700 new cases of bowel cancer every year in the UK by 2038-2040, projections suggest. This means that we will see an increase in the over 40’s suffering from bowel cancer. That’s why its crucial to act now and roll out bowel cancer screening to 40’s and over. Then continue to expand the screening to the younger age group. My next letter will be going directly to Victoria Atkins the health secretary to urge her to consider lower the screening age.
