Lower higher maths QS exam grade boundaries
Lower higher maths QS exam grade boundaries
The Issue
In today's competitive academic landscape, attaining a high-level maths qualification is crucial for gaining entry into a multitude of university courses as well as college programs. It opens doors to fields such as engineering, computer science, economics, and many more. Recently, however, students have faced an unexpected hurdle: the higher maths QS exam contained numerous questions that were misleading due to their unfamiliar wording. Unlike past exams that have provided guidance for students to understand the style of questioning, this year’s exam deviated significantly, causing widespread confusion.
Past papers have always served as a reliable guide for exam preparation, offering students a glimpse into the types of questions they might encounter. They are a critical tool in helping students feel prepared and confident. Yet, when the exam's format suddenly differs, it disadvantages those who have studied diligently, sowing uncertainty where there should be assurance. Students should not be penalized due to the ambiguous phrasing of exam questions, especially when they’ve rigorously prepared based on past paper guidance.
The importance of fairness in educational assessments cannot be overstated. Assessments should accurately reflect a student's capability and hard work, not catch them off guard with unexpected formats. By maintaining high yet fair standards, we can ensure that all students are judged on their true potential and understanding.
We, therefore, urge the examination board to reconsider the higher maths QS grade boundaries to account for these unforeseen difficulties. Adjusting the grade boundaries will help ensure that this year's cohort is not unfairly disadvantaged due to factors beyond their control.
Please sign this petition to show your support for fairness in the assessment process and to help students achieve the grades they truly deserve. Your signature can make a significant difference in advocating for a fairer evaluation system and ensuring all students receive a just representation of their efforts.
