Lower diesel and petrol prices in the UK
The Issue
I am writing this petition as a concerned citizen who, like many others, is struggling with the outrageous prices of diesel and petrol in the UK. Not only are these prices stretching our wallets thin, but they are also putting an unnecessary burden on our daily lives. With the cost of living already on the rise, the steep hike in fuel prices acts as an unfair penalty on everyone who relies on their vehicles for work, family commitments, and essential errands.
Over the past year, we've seen petrol prices soar by over 20%, with current averages reaching record highs since the financial crash of 2008. This surge in costs is not only affecting individuals but is permeating through entire sectors, including transportation and freight, thereby increasing the costs of goods and services nationwide. According to the RAC Foundation, the average family now spends almost £65 a week on fuel, which is unsustainable for many households.
It’s time for the government to take meaningful action to alleviate this financial pressure. We propose introducing measures such as reducing fuel duty—a significant portion of the overall cost per litre—and offering temporary subsidies or tax relief to both consumers and businesses that are heavy fuel users. Additionally, increasing transparency regarding how fuel prices are determined and regulated can rebuild public trust and ensure fairer pricing models are implemented.
Reducing diesel and petrol prices would not only ease the financial strain on millions of UK citizens but also stimulate economic recovery by boosting consumer spending and lowering transport costs. We urge the UK government to prioritize this pressing issue and act decisively.
Please sign this petition to demand that our leaders take immediate steps to lower diesel and petrol prices. Together, we can make a difference and ensure a fairer deal for everyone.
