Lower Car Insurance Rates for CDL Drivers

The Issue

As a holder of a CDL class B license, I understand the challenges that come with finding affordable car insurance rates. Despite being classified as professional drivers, we are often subjected to high insurance premiums comparable to those of everyday drivers. This is not only unfair but also discourages many from pursuing careers in this vital industry.

Commercial Driver's License (CDL) holders undergo rigorous training and testing before they can operate large vehicles such as trucks and buses. According to the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA), these drivers are held to higher safety standards due to the potential risks associated with operating large vehicles.

Despite this, our insurance rates remain high for our personal vehicle. A study by The Zebra found that truck drivers pay an average of $1,570 per year for auto insurance compared to $1,427 for non-commercial drivers - despite having better driving records on average.

This petition seeks fairness in the way car insurance companies calculate premiums for CDL holders. We call upon lawmakers and regulators to look into this matter and ensure that professional drivers are rewarded with lower premiums reflecting their expertise and commitment towards road safety.

Please sign this petition if you believe in fair treatment of our professional CDL drivers when it comes to car insurance rates.
