Today Louisiana House of Representatives passed HB 59 that would give local school districts a blanket grant of immunity from any liability that may occur as a result of teachers, student, parents, contractors or visitors contracting COVID- 19 while attending school on public or private school grounds, on public or private bus, at public or private facility, attending school sponsored event. This immunity includes all traditional schools, public charter school, private schools and institutions of higher education. We are asking you to sign this petition and ask Louisiana Senate to kill House Bill 59 and allow schools doors to reopen only if districts can insure every measure possible is in place to protect the lives of our students, teachers,parents, and all school staff, contractors and visitors.  This includes following CDC guidance in addition to all federal, state and local guidance to insure that everybody on school campus is safe. The safety of all involved should be our number one priority. 
Killing this bill is the only way to ensure Local Education Agencies will do what’s needed to keep students, teachers and school staff safe and limits any school level breakout of COVID-19.
