Prosecuting citizens for possession of small amounts of cannabis (marijuana) not only ties up the judicial system but also costs taxpayers millions of dollars annually. People incarcerated for marijuana possession often learn to become more hardened criminals while in the prison system. Furthermore prohibition only puts money into the hands of drug dealers.

Legalization would not only save money and free up the judicial system but it would provide a new source of tax revenue for the state, drop the crime rate and allow for the medicinal use of a plant known to help with many illnesses.

It's high time we stop turning people into criminals for use and possession of a plant that is no more dangerous than caffiene.
