The Lot 4 Road project under TENDER NO. KeNHA/2611/2022 was meant to connect two counties namely Nyeri and Nyandarua. The 54 KM road was envisioned to serve about two million locals including businesses and residents from neighboring counties.

In a statement, KeNHA said the decision followed the failure to get Environmental Impact Assessment approvals from Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS), Kenya Forest Service (KFS) and National Environment Management Authority (Nema).

“The EIA approvals would have granted KeNHA possession of (the) site for the 33 km stretch from Kiandogoro Gate to Mutubio Gate, which is under Aberdare National Park and Abedare Forest,” KeNHA said.

The residents of both Nyeri and Nyandarua would have benefited directly from the defunct project in terms of boosting inter-county trade. The cancellation of a section of Mau Mau road has dampened hopes of traders in Kiambu, Murang’a and Nyeri counties who were eyeing to establish links with farmers in Nyandarua.

This petition calls upon the following;

1. Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS), Kenya Forest Service (KFS), National Environment Management Authority (NEMA) to facilitate the  Environmental Impact Assessment approvals.

2. Kenya National Highways Authority (KENHA), The Governor's office Nyeri County, The Governor's office Nyandarua County, The Office of the Speaker of the County Assembly Nyeri County and The Office of the Speaker Nyandarua County abide by mitigation recommendations in the EIA report and to revoke the cancellation of TENDER NO. KeNHA/2611/2022 Lot 4 Road and commence the process to have the road built.
