The case of the Alliance of LA County Parents against LA County Public Health slogs on, and has reached some sickening lows. In their latest deposition, the County's law firm Sheppard Mullin retaliated against the Alliance plaintiffs by revealing photos of their children as well as the home addresses of the plaintiffs. They did so repeatedly, until the plantiffs were in tears.
Such egregious action had no merits to the case. It was purely and obviously an intimidation tactic to get The Alliance to quit the case. Still, the Alliance's motion for sanctions over such conduct was denied.
This would be bad enough, but the LA County Department of Health has seen its budget mushroom during Covid from about $200 million in 2019 to over $2 billion in 2023. They are using practically their entire 2019 budget to fund this litigation against The Alliance, which is just looking for some answers and consistency in the lockdowns of some 2 million children in the county.
A budget ostensibly inflated to fight Covid is only being used to squash any uppity constituents. This is a budget signed off on by the County Board of Supervisors. This cannot stand.
You should contact the supervisors and ask them why they are signing off on such abusive legal practices. Tell them how you feel about both Sheppard Mullin's tactics against the alliance and the mushrooming budget of LA Public Health. Is the budget to intimidate pesky constituents from speaking up?
Keep in mind each of these Supervisors represents their own supervisorial district. Click here to find out who represents you.
Kathryn Barger (5th district) - probably our friendliest voice on this issue. She should at least be concerned with the basic legal fouls here.
Janice Hahn (4th district) - could also be friendly on this issue.
Holly Mitchell (2nd district) - not as friendly - also uses "health racism" language. She also serves some of the neighborhoods hardest hit by transient camps. Pointing out the health hazard hypocrisy might hit her hard.
Hilda Solis (1st district) - not friendly, but is getting heat for her positions.
Lindsey Horvath (3rd district) - probably the least friendly, but she's open to embarassment. She tried to hide her ties to DSA radicals like LA Times owner's daughter, Nika Soon-Shiong. She also oversees Venice Beach, which saw bacteria spikes in the water causing dead seals to wash ashore - an issue she ignores. It's gotten so bad Congressman Ted Lieu has asked for federal assistance.
Your donations made the difference!
