BAN RODEOS IN LOS ANGELES - SUPPORT THE RODEO ORDINANCE
The Issue
Rodeos are exhibitions of animal cruelty disguised as family entertainment.
Rodeo events like bull riding, calf roping, and steer tailing cause animals broken limbs, cardiac arrest, punctured lungs, torn ligaments, ruptured organs, broken necks, crushed tracheas, and more.
Rodeos use "tools of torment" to scare normally docile animals to perform. Spurs, flank straps, and electric prods are routinely used to force animals to "participate" in rodeo events.
The people involved in rodeos suffer serious injuries as well. A study out of the University of Calgary found rodeo contestants are 20 times more likely to suffer catastrophic injuries than football players.
A growing number of cities and countries have outlawed the rodeo. These include Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; Pasadena, California; Auckland, New Zealand; Germany; England; Scotland; Wales; the Netherlands; and others.
Mexico City just outlawed bullfighting.
The city of Los Angeles is a national leader in protecting the rights and welfare of animals. Rodeos are dangerous for animals and humans alike.
LCA urges the LA City Council to support the Los Angeles Rodeo Ordinance introduced by Councilmember Bob Blumenfield.
