Grant Clemency to Demilo Fox
The Issue
I humbly submit this petition on behalf of Demilo Fox.
Inmate number M25746.
Demilo Fox is currently an inmate in the Illinois Department of corrections. Over a decade ago, Demilo Fox was arrested and charged with a crime he didn’t commit. Unfortunately, like so many others, the public defender assigned to represent Demilo did not effectively assist in making sure it would be an equitable trial. In fact, she showed no interest in uncovering what truly happened in the particular instance.
This lack of effort from Demilo’s legal counsel. Along with his ignorance in regards to the law and justice system. Forced Demilo Fox to agree to the terms of a plea agreement that would place him behind bars for the next 17 years of his life. Throughout the time Demilo Fox has spent incarcerated, he's made huge strides to reinvent himself. He went in as a young man who hadn’t graduated from high school, but he'll leave as a man who has attained his G.E.D and has earned sundry college credits as a result of taking and completing multiple college accredited courses.
Demilo came in as an individual that had anger issues, but he'll leave as a man who knows how invaluable empathy and compassion is, which are traits he inherited working as a volunteer in Shawnee Correctional Center's Hospice and Dog program. Demilo Fox has not allowed his current circumstances to deter him from being an integral part of his four childen's lives. He hasn’t become derelict in his duties as a father. And like wine, Instead of sitting around idly, Demilo has used each day of his incarceration as a stepping stone in his maturation process.
Demilo Fox is presently working on an Executive Clemency Petition in which he'll be petitioning Governor Pritzker for a commutation of sentence. Simply put, he's requesting that the governor reduce his prison sentence to one that will allow him to return home to his family and friends, all of you, in the near future. Thus, in signing this petition, you support Demilo in his quest to regain his long awaited freedom on the earliest date possible.
sincere gratitude,
Demilo Fox
