Loosen Laws on Car Window Tint in North Carolina

Loosen Laws on Car Window Tint in North Carolina
The Issue
As someone with light-sensitive blue eyes, I, like many North Carolina drivers, endure frequent headaches while on the road. The bright headlights reflecting off my rearview mirror combined with the sun's intense glare cause unbearable discomfort. This issue is greatly alleviated with a window tint higher than what is currently legal in North Carolina, acting simultaneously as sunglasses during the day, and as a protection from excessively bright lights at night.
Unfortunately, North Carolina's law allows only a maximum of 35% tint on vehicle windows, which falls short in providing adequate shield against harsh light. Furthermore, although medical waivers for window tint are available, it has been my experience, and the experience of many others, that local physicians are often reluctant to sign off on these waivers. This leaves us with under-protected eyes and a diminished capacity to enjoy our driving experience.
Research suggests that reducing glare can improve driver safety. According to a study published in the British Journal of Ophthalmology, drivers with light-sensitive eyes are particularly at risk in challenging light conditions, and timely interventions like window tints can significantly mitigate these risks.
Therefore, we are urging the local governing body to review and amend the current legislation regulating window tint on vehicles. The law should allow for a higher level of tint as a standard measure to accommodate sensitive drivers, like myself, who need additional protection from the sun's harsh UV rays and other glaring lights.
Please, sign this petition to help us initiate this vital change and facilitate a safer and more comfortable driving environment in North Carolina.
