London Overground: Stop Sadiq Khan's renaming of Lee Valley Line services as "Weaver line"

London Overground: Stop Sadiq Khan's renaming of Lee Valley Line services as "Weaver line"
The Issue
Sadiq Khan, the Mayor of London, has today revealed new line names for six commuter rail routes operated by London Overground. The renaming of these services is expected to cost the taxpayer £6.3 million.
One of these routes is the Liverpool Street to Enfield Town/Cheshunt/Chingford service operating on the Lea Valley Lines. Khan announced that this service is set to be renamed "Weaver line".
He stated that the name was chosen to celebrate "areas of London known for their textile trade, shaped over the centuries by diverse migrant communities".
Most areas on this route have little to no association with the textiles industry.
The Lee Valley, however, has a rich history and is intrinsically linked to the areas served by this rail route, which follows the course of the River Lea and Lee Navigation. The River Lea and Lea Valley form an integral part of the identity of the communities along it, hence the historical use of the names 'Lee Valley Line' and 'Lea Valley Lines'.
The Lea Valley area has a rich industrial history encompassing various trades. Khan's decision to rename the line after a specific industry that did not significantly shape our local identity creates a misleading representation of our local identity and heritage.
We demand that the Mayor of London and Transport for London immediately abandon the new 'Weaver line' name for the Liverpool Street to Enfield Town/Cheshunt/Chingford service, and instead use the established, geographically relevant name 'Lee Valley line'.
