MAKE LONDON ONTARIO A ROUND-A-BOUT CITY

MAKE LONDON ONTARIO A ROUND-A-BOUT CITY
The Issue
Round-a-bouts are used as the main form of intersection(s) in many countries all over the world, why not Canada? There are many benefits to round-a-bouts, which are commonly overlooked.
Spending less money on gas is just one of the many benefits to the consistent traffic flow offered by the round-a-bout. Without having to stop and go all the time you can not only save money on your gas, but you may save money on your car as well. As the stop and go method has proven to be damaging to the vehicles over time and driving at a consistent speed until coming to a full stop can help save your vehicle by a few years.
Another bonus to spending less money on gas is having more free cash to spend on luxury or other necessities. Some may be happy with the time they are saving in traffic as well as money they are saving on gas and perhaps spend it at small businesses benefiting others in our city. Benefiting others in the city helps to benefit the city itself and ultimately make up a better living experience.
With round-a-bouts in place some may feel less of a need to speed as I commonly see or hear of people speeding up to catch the green or sometimes amber(yellow) light. Round-a-bouts eliminate the feeling of missing your turn and being stuck in a halt for what could be several minutes. If you were to miss your exit at a round-a-bout you simply keep driving until it appears again making for a much less stressful mistake on your morning drive to work.
Another great factor to having round-a-bouts is how great it would be for the environment. It has been proven that the stalling at a drive-thru lane and stalling at red lights is not only bad for your car, but it is also bad for the environment. Now, I don't know about you, but I would much rather give up waiting in traffic then waiting for my junior chicken to feel like a bit of a hero. All jokes aside though, helping to protect the environment is one of the best feelings and our city could be the beginning to bringing that all across Canada.
Of course, there will have to be a lot of construction in order to put the round-a-bouts in place, but, there are benefits to this too. More construction, means more work for those involved in the field, and if you have lived in London, Ontario then you probably know that summers are filled with lots of road construction anyway. More efficient traffic flow means a better organized city which in turn makes for overall happier residents.
