Dear Supports,
I have now received an official refusal from Hillingdon Council to hear this petition:
'unfortunately, we are not able to accept any petitions in relation to HS2 matters. This is because, under the HS2 Act, Schedule 17 applications are not considered to be planning applications as such hence any petitions relating to these applications cannot be considered by the Council.' Hillingdon Council Democratic Services.
The Council's position is shielding the HS2 destruction machine and is in line with Council court actions against Protest. This is deeply worrying and does not represent the concerns and wishes of Hillingdon residents or the stated claims of the Council.
The most important economic asset of North Hillingdon is the large amount of fresh drinking water purified by the chalk beneath the Mid Colne Valley. If Affinity Water Ltd are granted their application to close the Blackford source on Moorehall Road in Harefield (due to HS2 works) then approximately 140,000 local people will be receiving a different water supply from their usual source. This will be water that has undergone more treatment processes at greater cost. Even if the cost is not passed on to the consumer in the first place, it will be met by the tax payer. So we pay either way.
Please sign this petition and share it with others. I will keep up-dating Hillingdon Council. I will also up-date you to the attitude of the Council who at one time sort (unsuccessfully); 'an undertaking that the water supply of residents is not impacted at any time by the HS2 project.'
Hillingdon Council should now hear our petition and demand transparency about HS2 economic and quality impacts on the water bearing aquifer under North West Hillingdon and the future of our naturally filtered drinking water!
