When it comes to security we all want to trust it- right?  We all want to feel safe? Currently in the state of Minnesota and many other states a Locksmith worker and/or owner does not have to be licensed.  This means it could be ANYBODY entering your home.  How can you trust that? Let’s say you need a lock changed, and you don’t have time or you don’t know how to do it yourself.  Maybe you want the most secure lock ever made- installed on your home, because you want to be safe.  You want your family safe. Right?  You google ‘Locksmith services in the city of ------.’  Suddenly you have a list of a dozen locksmith companies in your area.  You choose one, for whatever reason, (you liked the name, nice website...) you call it; you schedule a service and this locksmith comes over.  You have no idea who he/she is. You don’t really think much about it because for some reason you trust them.  After all they work with security. Right?  However this locksmith has a secret.  He’s a felon, for a sex crime, a sex crime that involves a minor child.  He’s a registered sex offender.  But you would have no way of knowing that now would you?  Because even if you did a google search and read reviews on the company, no where would it be listed.  Who knows who you are trusting.  The name he tells you might not be his real name.  You wouldn’t even know if he was a US citizen.  However you put your trust in his hands.  The safety and security of your family and home. I know of a company where the owner owns and operates it all by himself. He enters homes and businesses and is a convicted felon – yes for a sex crime against a minor child, (my child) and is a registered sex offender in the state of Minnesota.  I want to change the potential risks you and your family are facing when you call upon a company for safety and security.  Please sign my petition:  For all States- All companies dealing with safety and security should be licensed and bonded.  Businesses owners and workers must have background checks done, before they can own or operate a business that deals with security; such as a locksmith company.  They should be required to show you their license/certified badge before performing any service related to their company.
