Lochlan's Law: Ban hoods on toddler onesies

Lochlan's Law: Ban hoods on toddler onesies
The Issue
In our tight-knit community, we were struck by an unimaginable tragedy. One of our local children, Lochlan Webster, fell victim to a fatal accident when the hood of his onesie became caught. He was just 19 months old. This devastating accident has prompted us to reflect on the safety of clothing designed for our little ones.
Hoodies are popular for their style and warmth, but when it comes to toddler onesies, they pose significant hidden dangers. According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission, clothing with drawstrings or hoods on young children under four has resulted in numerous accidents, some fatal, due to entanglement hazards that can lead to strangulation or suffocation.
Removing fixed hoods from toddler onesies could be a simple yet powerful step in enhancing the safety of our children. As parents and caregivers, it is our responsibility to advocate for safer clothing designs that prioritise the wellbeing of our little ones. Some successful brands have already taken the initiative by removing hoods from their toddler clothing lines and replacing them with safer alternatives like detachable hats or hoods, or opting for hoodless designs altogether.
We urge manufacturers and retailers to heed this call and eliminate hoods on toddler onesies. By taking this preventive action, they can help ensure that no other family must endure the pain and heartbreak of losing a child to an avoidable hazard.
Join us in calling for a ban on hoods for toddler onesies and to raise awareness of this preventable risk. Together, we can foster a safer environment for all children by insisting on clothing that is free from unnecessary dangers. Sign this petition today to help protect our most precious treasures.
In loving memory of our precious Loki boy xx
