VICTORY FOR THE COMMUNITY! - Monday's Goodsyard Hearing at City Hall CANCELLED
MORE LIGHT MORE POWER
London, ENG, United Kingdom
Apr 15, 2016 —
UPDATE: Boris Johnson has deferred his decision on the Goodsyard and cancelled Monday's Public Hearing. The developers Hammerson and Ballymore asked for this deferral so they can make changes to the plans in line with the recent planning officers' Stage 3 report. In an unprecedented move the GLA officers recommend the scheme be REFUSED! - It's now very unlikely that Boris Johnson will be the decision maker as he leaves office on 5th May. This is a VICTORY FOR THE COMMUNITY in preventing the current scheme being granted and we are grateful for your part in that! - but minor alterations are not enough. We should now go back to the drawing board to have any chance of making the Goodsyard great. The developers have stated " they will work with the GLA, the local community and the boroughs of Hackney and Tower Hamlets" to improve the scheme - time will tell. We are looking to the next Mayor of London to be the catalyst for a new vision, ideally returning the application to the boroughs for determination. The Mayor must introduce more transparency in the planning process and move from developer-led to pro-London planning, for the benefit of all. We will keep you updated on the next stage. and with updates. Boris calls off hearing: https://www.london.gov.uk/sites/default/files/mayors_decision_to_defer_hearing_signed.pdf Mayor of Hackney's response: “It’s abundantly clear that virtually everyone is in agreement that the current application is entirely inappropriate for this area - be they the thousands of residents and businesses who wrote letters and signed petitions, the planning experts at Hackney, Tower Hamlets and the GLA, the finance experts at BNP Paribas, the light experts at Building Research Establishment, the local MPs, and myriad others.....Let’s hope that the developers now take a creative, collaborative approach with Hackney and Tower Hamlets councils, local residents, businesses and community groups to build something which works for everyone, not just their bottom line. There is so much more potential for this site than simply the developer’s ambition to cash in on luxury flats." http://news.hackney.gov.uk/hackney-mayor-responds-to-decision-to-delay-bishopsgate-goods-yard-hearing/
