With the current bushfire crises affecting our beautiful country I think it is obscene that we should be spending over $6 million on nye fireworks which will create even further pollution to our environment , when a suitable perhaps even better alternative could be found?

It is understandable that Sydney would still host a Nye Spectacle,  as it brings vital income to the economy , over $100 million , is a worldwide point of interest and also an opportunity to showcase our magical country . But are we missing an opportunity to expand and change our format of fireworks and put us on the forefront of supporting climate change and our local heroes ?  This could be an opportunity for us to help drive more attention to the crises we face ? 

Perhaps  a light show spectacle,  or water and light show as draws crowds to the famous ‘Strip’ in Las Vegas could be an alternative to fireworks which have always been used . Our Vivid event taking place in winter is a prime example  of such a successful event ..why not extend something like this to our New Year’s Eve format . Tell the story of the Australian outback bush and local flora and fauna whilst displaying our great city of Sydney ??

I believe that with some wise planning and the creative skill in the country this is still feasible at this stage in planning.  
Let’s push the boundaries of our creativity as a nation to help support and show both solidarity and willing to our fire fighters, farmers and environment through this public forum . 
I can guarantee it will make us proud as a nation and help people who are in need .
