Avoid Fatalities at Our School

Issues: Croudace Road pedestrian crossing and parking; and Lambton Public School kiss and drop process.

Lambton Public School is located on Croudace Road, one of the busiest roads in Newcastle.  The main school crossing and roadside parking is at the northern end of Croudace Road where we witness ‘near misses’ daily involving our students, parents and community and we fear that it is only a matter of time before a serious or fatal incident occurs.

Our school and P&C have contacted and met with the relevant authorities to raise our concerns and provide ideas for improvement to the traffic and parking conditions but unfortunately our efforts have not been successful.  There have also been many calls for improvements via surveys, applications, meetings with Council and Roads but we don’t seem to be making any progress to resolve the safety issue.  In consultation with the school, we are sending this letter to you and have created this petition to show the relevant authorities our concerns and support from the broader community.

We request the relevant authorities conduct investigations for the feasibility on the following:
* installation of a red light camera at the traffic lights located directly outside of the school
* installation of traffic light warning lights as vehicles come north  down the hill – often drivers see the lights at the top of the hill (junction of Croudace and Newcastle Link Road) and run the red light at the school lights
* review of the parking located on Croudace Road
* review of the kiss and drop process on Armstrong Street which is congested and has long wait times
* review the suggestion of a layby in Armstrong Park to assist with congestion and kiss and drop process

As a community we would be open to any other suggested improvements that could improve the traffic and road safety at the particular site and in the surrounding area.

Your support is appreciated.
