As the owner of the Lloyd Elsmore Dog Park Facebook community page, I have seen the park grow into an essential hub for dog owners in Auckland. Over the past year, the platform of dog owners has led to an increased usage of the park and sparked conversations about its future development.

The park provides a safe and enjoyable space for dogs to exercise and socialise. However, as it continues to grow, it's clear that we need additional amenities to enhance the overall experience for both dogs and their owners. These include basic necessities such as a water source and shelter that are currently missing from the park.

In New Zealand, approximately 64% of households own a pet with dogs being one of the most popular choices (New Zealand Companion Animal Council). This highlights how important community spaces like this are in supporting not only our pets' physical health and mental well-being.

We urge our local council to recognise this need by investing in improvements at the Lloyd Elsmore Dog Park. By doing so, they will be promoting healthier lifestyles for Auckland's dog population while also allowing for the creation of stronger community bonds.
