Lleyton's Law: require mandatory blood tests for suspected DUI's & deny bail in the event of death

The Issue

In November 2012, Tiffany and Bruce Slate's 2 year old son, Lleyton, was ill and needed to stay home from daycare. Tiffany had to work so she trusted her Aunt to watch her son, Lleyton. Later that day she loaded Lleyton into her car and went to pick up her own two children from school. She did this after drinking 3 times the legal limit of alcohol. On the way to the school she crashed her car and killed Tiffany and Bruce’s son, Lleyton Slate.

No one should ever have to go through what Tiffany and Bruce Slate and their family are enduring.

I ask that you help create “Lleyton’s Law”, putting stricter laws into place helping prevent tragedies like this from ever happening again.

“Lleyton’s Law” would consist of 2 parts:

1st: Create a law requiring suspected drunk drivers to take a mandatory blood test. The law would require that everyone who holds a license currently or acquires a new license would be required to consent to blood testing if suspected of DUI, when there is a death. (helping to determine right away if someone is guilty of DUI)
2nd: Holding anyone who kills a child while under the influence without bail until trial, preventing them from injuring anyone while waiting for their trial.

It is so sad that our judicial system is allowing the Aunt to walk away from this and remain free while waiting for her court date.

By passing all or part of Lleyton’s law-we will not only be honoring him, we will be taking something sooo tragic and turning it into a powerful way to love our children, by putting laws into place to protect them. We have the ability to make a difference and by speaking up today we can influence laws in the future.

Please help prevent other families from suffering the constant heartache that comes from minimal laws that allow criminals to walk free and help convict those who drive while under the influence. Our hearts break every time we think about their loss.

Our goal is to GAIN NATIONAL ATTENTION for Lleyton's Law.  By signing this we can help get this law passed!  Thank you for your support!
