A large-scale industrial, concrete crushing /waste management facility is being proposed by a private company for 107 Artillery Road, IRONPOT.  This is Rural Zoned in an iconic, scenic area on the Capricorn Coast surrounded by creeks, flood plains, volcanic plugs.  Water from this site flows into the nationally important Hedlow wetlands.  It is a part of the Fitzroy River Water Catchment - the sole water supply for Rockhampton, Gracemere, Mt Morgan and much of the Capricorn Coast.  Tourism and agriculture industries in this region work synergistically, together showcasing the beauty of our region.  

Proposed site:

• is elevated land in clay country, IronPot Creek on one side, Splinter's Creek on the other side.  Both creeks flow directly into Hedlow Creek and then into the FRWC.   

Proposed development is NOT required to meet water quality benchmarks!!

Concerns:  Pollution of Water / Land / Air / Noise

• Toxic chemicals / contaminants from site entering Hedlow Creek and the Fitzroy River Water Catchment, POLLUTING water, wetlands, floodplains and neighboring residents' water supplies.  This site is elevated in clay country.  Storms / rain events in this clay country produce run off that quickly overwhelms dams and pondages.  Concrete dust alone contains heavy metals, silica and asbestos and is highly alkaline.  Construction and demolition waste contains numerous heavy metal contaminants.  
• Silica - the new asbestos - risking the health of local residents, cyclists and other users of area.  Silica is microscopic, invisible to the naked eye, exceedingly difficult to contain, remains airborne for up to 12days and can travel long distances.  It is readily inhaled.  It lodges deep in the lungs and causes silicosis (akin to asbestosis) which is carcinogenic, incurable and irreversible. The proposed site is on a ridge with strong SE winds.  Residents live only 350m away.  Residents live downwind.  Silica could travel for miles above vegetation levels, settling in homes and properties of local residents.
• Dust and Noise Pollution - significant dust and noise WILL result from CONCRETE CRUSHER, jackhammering, constant movement of heavy trucks and other vehicles; reversing beeps, trucks unloading and reloading.  The peace and lifesavings of local residents are being threatened by an industry that seeks to plonk itself in a rural zone rather than an appropriate industrial zone.  This is in direct contradiction to the Livingstone Shire Council 2050 plan.  
• Negatively impacting local tourism industries - scenic flights, farm stays, caravan stops for pictures of scenic volcanic plugs and flood plains.

THE RISK OF POLLUTING THE PRECIOUS WATER SUPPLY OF ROCKHAMPTON, YEPPOON, GRACEMERE, AND THE ASSOCIATED HEALTH RISKS FROM THIS INDUSTRY IN THIS PROPOSED LOCATION, IS FAR TOO GREAT, AND IS UNACCEPTABLE TO ALL RESIDENTS.

We the petitioners implore the Livingstone Shire Councillors to reject the development application that would allow this industry in this area zoned rural.
