Section C. 1. of the 2015-16 accommodation contract states 'The University will provide you with a reasonable standard of accommodation where you
can live and study with as few problems as possible.'

I believe that the University of Birmingham's accommodation service has failed in this obligation to us, the residents, and we deserve compensation for this. It has failed this by: not having the building complete upon our arrival from the launderette area to JC's and even to people's rooms missing blinds and other essential items. Loud drilling before 09:00, a breach of the promise made to us in one email on the 23/09/15. The main door to the building has also broken many times, allowing possible intruders to enter the building unhindered. As well as the lift lobby being turned into a building site over the Christmas period, posing a potential hazard to any students who remained in their accommodation, and many showers not working properly upon our arrival.

In regards to a recent email many have received upon asking for compensation the suggestion that those who did not complain at the time were satisfied with the state of the building is ridiculous. We, the residents, had lectures to attend and exams to revise for, along with acclimatizing to a completely new environment, unlike other accommodation we did not have elected RAs from the beginning who would fight for compensation and when we did vote for our RAs we voted for at least one who promised compensation. For these reasons it is astounding that the accommodation service can assume that anyone who did not raise a complaint during the period of the project works was satisfied with the state of the accommodation. 

I am sorry to say that I have seen little concrete evidence of any compensation coming from our RAs. So I ask you to sign this petition to make the university accommodation service realize that we will not simply accept their failings but demand compensation.
