Livestock Law Change

The Issue

We started a small homestead to provide food for our family, raising a few animals for eggs and meat. Unfortunately, we've been threatened with fines for housing livestock, even though it’s solely for our personal use and sustainability. It’s disheartening to face penalties for trying to live more self-reliantly and provide for our loved ones. The city of Vineland currently states that a property must be  5 acres minimum to house chickens, ducks and other types of 'farm animals'.

Consider this quote from the City of Vineland Master Plan Reexamination of 2018: "The 2008 Master Plan was founded on three principles; balanced land use, sustainable development, and equitable growth." Vineland is known for being a rural, farm friendly area in which families produce and consume plants and livestock for themselves and those around them. It seems, however, that the aim is only for those wealthy enough to purchase 5 or more acres to develop and grow.

We believe families should have the right to raise modest livestock—like chickens, goats, or rabbits—to feed themselves, even on properties smaller than 5 acres. Current laws make it difficult for small homesteads to be self-sufficient.

Please help us change that. Sign our petition to support fairer homesteading laws, allowing responsible families to raise their own food regardless of property size. Your signature makes a real difference!
