On Thursday 3rd July, the shocking and tragic news of the death of Diogo Jota hit both the front and back pages of newspapers and became the main news item shown on television and mobile screens in not only the UK but around the world as well.

His death at the age of just 28 years ago devastated not just Liverpool fans but the whole football community as well - even people who have no interest in football were saddened by his passing at such a young age when his career and his personal life still had so much left to offer.

This is why I am doing this petition - it may get nowhere, but let's at least give it a go:

On Sunday 20th July, let's have a Liverpool v Benfica pre-season match at Anfield where the two sides compete for the Diogo Jota Memorial Cup.

Funds raised from this match can be given to Diogo's family as well as to charities and causes which were dear to him.

Apart from the obvious as to why it should happen, it shows respect and will give the fans and the club an opportunity to say a final goodbye to a much loved and respected player who still means so much to so many.

Let's give Diogo the send-off he deserves - he was a great servant to Liverpool Football Club and it's only right that such a match is played in his honour and memory.
