Aldi is seeking to build yet another store on the former Huyton Cricket & Bowling Club (formed in 1860) off Huyton Lane opposite ASDA.  Aldi state they believe “there is a real need for a new community food store in Huyton”, I think they have forgotten they have just finished building a huge store in Huyton at the top of Wilson Road near the Chapel Book Pub.  Aldi also apparently have recently purchased land for £1.5 million in Prescot.  I do not understand why Aldi thinks there is a need for a second store in Huyton, within 6 minutes from the one they have just completed building, that would mean along with the Prescot one that makes an Aldi triangle of Tarbock Road, Huyton Lane and Prescot.

As it stands there are about 12 Aldi stores roughly within 5 miles or less from Huyton Lane, so there really is no need for another one in Huyton, the 12 stores in/near to Huyton Lane are:

Tarbock Road /top of Wilson Road - HUYTON - approx 1.7 miles – approx 6 minutes
East Prescot Road – L14 2DE – approx 2.1 miles – approx 10 minutes
Gateacre Park Drive – L25 1PD - approx 2.3 miles – approx 8 minutes
Broad Green Road – Old Swan – approx L13 5SG – 3.2 miles
Queens Drive – L13 0DL - approx 3.4 miles
Ravenscourt Centre – Halewood - L26 0TX – approx 3.8 miles
Lorenzo Drive L11 1BE – approx 4.2 miles
Westpoint, A58 Linkway – St Helens – WA10 1QA – approx 4.5 miles
Clock Face Road – St Helens – WA9 4LE – approx 4.8 miles
Copplehouse Lane L10 0AE – approx 4.9 miles
St Mary’s Road – L19 0NF – approx 5 miles
Unit G, Peasley Cross – St Helens - WA9 1JJ – approx 5 miles

Aldi say they will renovate Jubilee Park as a finical contribution (is that not another way/sugar coating way to say pay off?), however, Jubilee Park is in Roby, this would mean Huyton would have to put up with the disruption, extra traffic and inconvenience whilst Roby reap the benefits of the “contribution”.

The current residential traffic brought about by those travelling through Huyton or using the already well established Asda supermarket, opposite the proposed site is already unmanageable, should a new store be brought to the proposed site it will cause further chaos. Huyton Lane is not made for all this traffic and is gridlocked at the best of times several times a day if not more, any extra heavier traffic will not only bring about the extra chaos but it will also bring about more pollution, not just environmental but also visual and noise pollution.  To even consider introducing further traffic including trade near to a heavily used pedestrian area and to where emergency services dispatch units from preposterous.

Has any consideration has been given to those who work night, families who have babies, young children or the vulnerable?  For Aldi to say car park lighting will turn off approximately one hour after closing, approximately is a bit vague. The proposed site is a lot nearer to residential homes in comparison to Asda and with Aldi closing at 10pm having lighting turn off 1 hour after is too late and very disruptive.

If this green space is to be built on surely there is more need for extra school places, extra G.P surgeries etc, or even an investment in to a more productive green space/leisure area/youth club/brownie, guides or scotts building etc to benefitting the local residents.

To summaries, the plan is not welcome it will bring about further traffic congestion, chaos, disruption, chaos pollution and could decrease house prices and enforce parking permits.

Before Aldi can submit their planning application to Knowsley Council they are undertaking a pre-application consultation, giving local residents until Monday 29 June to leave feedback.
